Cryoablation

With cryoablation we freeze your tumor under continuous MR image guidance to have an excellent 3D-view on the ablation process.

What is cryoablation?

With cryoablation we freeze your tumor under continuous MR image guidance to have an excellent 3D-view on the ablation process.

For which patients?

Cryoablation is in general performed in patients with recurrent prostate cancer after previous radiotherapy.

What to expect?

Cryoablation is performed under general anesthesia. When you are asleep, a catheter is inserted in your urethra and a small balloon in your rectum. During the cryoablation, both will be flushed with warm water to protect them from freezing. Then, some special needles will be inserted under MR image guidance into the prostate tumor through the skin of your perineum. When the needles are in the correct position the freezing process is started. During this process, MR images are continuously acquired to monitor the ablation accurately.

When the cryoablation procedure is finished you have to stay one night in the hospital for observation.
