MRI-guided Prostate Biopsy

In the Radboudumc we perform MRI-guided targeted in-bore biopsy. With a special needle some small tissue samples will be taken out of your prostate.

For which patients?

For patients with an MR visible lesion suspect for prostate cancer.

What to expect?

The biopsy procedure will take place when you are in the MRI scanner. A small tube (the needle guide) will be inserted in your rectum. New prostate MR images are acquired to have an accurate view of the latest situation in your prostate. Than the needle guide is aimed to the tumor suspicious area in your prostate. When it is in the right location, a biopsy needle is inserted and a tissue sample is taken. For every tumor suspicious are 2-3 samples are taken.
