IGT in hybrid OR

A hybrid operating room is a surgical theatre that combines the sterile environment and surgical capabilities of a conventional operating theatre with fixed 3D imaging modalities. This allows clinicians to plan, guide, and immediately verify interventions without having to move the patient to the radiology department, improving efficiency and patient safety.

The hybrid operating room of Radboudumc, part of the Medical Innovation and Technology expert Center, is equipped with a robotic C-arm that enables real-time X-ray imaging and 3D X-ray imaging, and an MR system is located in an adjacent room. By providing real-time and advanced visualization of anatomy and surgical instruments during procedures, minimally invasive interventions can be performed with greater accuracy, immediate intraoperative assessment, and a reduced need for additional procedures or postoperative imaging.

In addition to supporting established clinical workflows, the hybrid operating room is an important environment for the development and evaluation of new image-guided, minimally invasive procedures. The close integration of imaging, intervention, and surgical expertise allows multidisciplinary teams to test new techniques, improve procedural workflows, and bring technological innovations into clinical practice. In this way, the hybrid operating room at Radboudumc not only improves current patient care, but also has an important role in innovation in image-guided therapies, across multiple clinical disciplines.
